Italian Serie A, Matchday 23 Previews (Sunday)

Previews

Atalanta v Bari

The home side are very hungry for points: they have recently acquired the expert midfielder Volpi, who will play his first game as play maker with the Lombardy squad. Coach Mutti will bring back the important Doni, while midfielder Guarente is suspended. Play will be 4-4-1-1 with Doni and striker Amoruso in attack.

Bari are in shape, but they often suffer in away games. The visitors will miss their important midfielder Almiron, who is suspended, in addition to the long injured Ranocchia, Rivas, Parisi and Kutuzov. The play will be 4-4-2 with Barreto and Meggiorini in attack.

Atalanta are in a must win situation to recover their position in the table, otherwise relegation could be a strong possibility for them.

Home win at 2.35

Genoa v Chievo

Genoa have brought back players Jankovic and Kharja after long injuries and defender Criscito after suspension; coach Gasperini will propose 3-4-3 with new striker Acquafresca in attack. Suazo and Palladino will start on the bench, ready to play in the second half.

Chievo have no particular issue over formation, and only midfielder Moro is injured. Manager Di Carlo will adopt 4-3-1-2 with Abbruscato and Pellissier in attack.

The home side will want to capitalize on this major experience and quality in this match.

Home win at 1.90

Lazio v Catania

Lazio have changed their squad so much in the last window of the transfer market: in this match they will include new midfielder Hitzlsperger and defender Biava. They will bring back important striker Floccari, but are still without Matuzalem, Foggia, Brocchi and Del Nero.

Coach Ballardini will play 4-3-1-2 with Mauri, Zarate and Floccari in attack. Mihajlovic, the former Lazio player who Is now coach of Catania, will be without Martinez, Marchese, Sciacca and Barrientos. New striker Maxi Lopez will probably start play in the second half, replacing Morimoto.

The home side will be motivated to get all 3 points here.

Home win at 1.90

Udinese v Napoli

Udinese are searching for their first win in the League with new coach De Biasi, Napoli are still unbeaten after 15 games. The home side are without defender Zapata and midfielder Sanchez, but their substitutes, Coda and Pepe, qualify. Asamoah will play in the midfield, with Pepe, Di Natale and Floro Flores in attack.

Napoli are without the important Santacroce and Lavezzi after long injuries, striker Quagliarella has recovered from the flu this week and will play. Coach Mazzarri will also have Campagnaro and Gargano both surviving light injuries.

Udinese could be tired after their match against Roma in the Italian Cup, but they need a win to stay away from the relegation zone. Napoli have a good defence (they have not conceded a goal for 6 games, that is overall 575 minutes), but they could be at risk against the dangerous attack of Udinese.

Home win at 2.40

Bologna v Milan

Bologna with 4-4-1-1: coach Colomba has chosen this scheme with Gimenez in support of the only striker Di Vaio. The home side will miss Mutarelli, Marazzina, Mingazzini, and Viviano.

Milan want to return to success after two false steps: coach Leonardo has confirmed 4-3-3 with Beckham, Borriello and Ronaldinho in attack. They are still without Pato, Nesta , Dida and Oddo. Abbiati will play in goal, while Pirlo, Ambrosini and Gattuso play in midfield. Seedorf will start from the bench.

The match has some difficulties for the visitors, given that Bologna are well organized in defence, but Milan cannot afford to lose any other ground to Inter.

Away win at 1.80

Inter v Cagliari

Inter seem to have no competitors: in this game they are favourites. Coach Mourninho can rely on 4-3-3 with Pandev, Milito and Eto’o in attack, but there are two important absentees in this match: injured Stankovic and suspended Sneijder. This could undermine the dreams of Inter in finalizing the offensive manouvres. Cagliari are in a state of emergency: they are without goalkeeper Marchetti, also Lopez, Pisano and suspended Cossu.

The visitors will have their new goalkeeper Agazzi, with Matri and Larrivey in attack.

The home side will be under pressure, Cagliari are able to surprise and they will play with a free mind. Inter are superior, but must pay attention to the possibility of a surprise. Also the home side have the pressure of being unbeaten at the Meazza pitch for many years.

Both teams to score at 1.85
