For The 3rd Place
Sweden - Germany ![]()
It is a pleasant surprise that Germany will meet the favourites Sweden in the match for the 3rd place. The Three Crowns were unlucky to lose to the Czechs when Rachunek equalized the score (2:2) just few seconds before the end which brought the match to a shoot-out. And the Czechs took advantage of the momentum they had to pass another favourite after they beat Finland on shoot-outs two days before. Sweden might be dissapointed because of this painful loss but there are still bronze medals waiting for the winner of today`s match. What is more many of the young talent from Sweden don`t have medals yet and this will be a great chance to win their first.
Germany, on the other hand, scored only a single goal to Russia(2:1) but they should not feel bad about the performance they showed. They faced the mega-favourites of this championship and were close to a win. Although Dacjuk`s winning goal from 58th minute was a real blow for the home side. But as you can see the spirited and organized performance mixed with the great home crowd support turned a poor Germany to one of the top teams this year. And the motivation and determination is even bigger today as the Germans might get their first medals since 1953. Despite this I still believe Sweden will have a reason to celebrate after the final whistle but it won`t be very easy.
Betting Suggestion:
The Final
Russia - Czech Republic ![]()
The Russians will be looking to secure their third straight world championship trophy.
On paper, they have the best team in the tournament: balanced scoring, good goaltending and a dependable defence. Much is expected of hockey teams with great potential. Their squad is loaded in the forward positions, from the established stars to the burgeoning stars. There are Datsyuk, Ovechkin, Semin, Kovalchuk, Malkin and Gonchar. They have leadership and talent. Athough they beat Germany only 2-1 in the semi-finals, they are still the big favourites to win the World Championship 2010.
On the other hand, superior goaltending and the team-based work ethic that coach Ruzicka is famous for has returned the Czech Republic to the finals. They defeated Sweden 3-2 after a shoot-out yesterday. If they want to be successful today, Vokoun has to lead the team once again. He will be the reason the Czechs succeed or fail in the finals. There is also some real offensive talent on their roster – a number of young players who are trying to make a name for themselves. But I am not expecting any surprises here.

The Czechs were more of a team in the final. The Russians were very disappointing, they were only good at beating down (literaly) some opponents and receiving penalties... Germany must have set some new standards in world ice hockey! Their scores resemble those of football matches and I can only remember seing a hollywood movie where a team played without a goalkeeper in order to score!
